Cole Camp Girls and Boys Basketball: The 23rd version of the W-K Holiday Basketball Shootout continued December 21st at State Fair Community College. The 2-5 Cole Camp girls met the 4-4 Saint Paul's girls at 10:30 a.m. and the lady Saints had a 7-0 lead by mid 1st qtr. They continued to lead by a 9-3 score after 1 period. Better results in the 2nd qtr for the Lady Bluebirds. MacKenzie Moellman, Emma Thayer and Madilynn Ogle each with 3 to narrow the margin to 16-19 favoring St Paul's at halftime. St Paul's outscored Cole Camp 13-4 in the 3rd qtr. The Saints forced some turnovers and out rebounded the Bluebirds and therefore led 32-20 with 8 minutes to go. Katherine Timoshchuk with 3 in the last qtr. Kaitlyn Whitworth and Marilyn Hesse 2 each. Though the game outcome was pretty well decided, nice defensive effort by Leah Allison. If there was a loose ball on the floor, she was still trying to gain a possession. Final score was St Paul's 41, Cole Camp 29. Scoring: Timoshchuk 7, Thayer 5, Moellman 5, Ogle 5, Hesse 3, Whitworth 2, Allison 2. Chloe Fahrmeier led St. Paul's with 13, Bella Woods with 11. Varsity Boys followed and the Saints seem to score 5 at a time. They led 5-0, then 10-1 and so a quick deficit for the Bluebirds. Bovey Clark and Blake Abey with 3 each to pace Cole Camp. Tate Kreisel, a junior guard scored 10 for the Saints who led 17-9 after 1. Not a lot of point production for Cole Camp in the 2nd, but several nice defensive stands. Kolby Bohon and Abey took a beating but drew charging fouls on the Saints players. Kreisel another 8 for the Saints, who now led 28-14 at halftime. The lead grew to 20 in the 3rd. Cole Camp was putting in the work but not a lot of points to show for it. Saint Paul's with a 38-22 cushion after 3. Good effort by sophomore Kolton Phillips in the last qtr. He made a 2-point field goal, 2 freethrows, and a traditional 3-point play. Connor Petersen also 2 for 2 freethrows. Game ended with St Paul's having 48, Cole Camp 33. Scoring: Phillips 11, Dieckman 6, Clark 6, Petersen 5, Abey 5. Kreisel with 25 for the Saints. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for this article.

What better way to start Christmas break than with some basketball vs. St Pauls. Girls and boys both had competitive games but came up short.

Cole Camp Bluebird Basketball: Almost Christmas and the Ladies and Men's Bluebird basketball teams both notched victories over Sweet Springs on December 19th! Strong start for the Lady Bluebirds led by Katherine Timoshchuk with three close range baskets. That plus two long range 3's by teammates produce a 12-3 lead after 8 minutes. Sweet Springs added 5 early 2nd qtr, then Cole Camp back in the driver's seat. Timoshchuk another 4 before Payten Shoemaker scored 6 in a minute! Yep a 3, a 2, and a freethrow. Cole Camp ahead 26-15 at halftime. Cole Camp added 7 in the 3rd qtr while the Lady Greyhounds added 2. Their leading scorer, 6 ft sophomore Madison Bolling was absent, so they were short-handed. Score after 3 was Cole Camp 33 - 17. Whitworth and Thayer combined for 7 early in the last qtr. Not unusual for opponents to double team MacKenzie Moellman when she gets the ball near the basket. Twice in the last qtr, she spotted an open teammate and assisted them with easy scores. Also Madilynn Ogle with a blocked shot that she then recovered and took the length of the floor for a layup. Final score Cole Camp 44, Sweet Springs 20. Scoring: Timoshchuk 12, Whitworth 11, Thayer 6, Shoemaker 6, Ogle 6, Hesse 3, Moellman 2. Seven Bluebirds with at least one steal. Reagan McCoy led Sweet Springs with 8. Varsity Boys game matched the 2-8 Greyhounds and the Bluebirds at 0-5. Cole Camp trailed 2-3 after 2 minutes of play, then scored 7 in a row. Connor Petersen with 5 of those as the Greyhounds are limited on height. Kolton Phillips and Kolby Bohon each added 4, and Dasch Kaiser 3. Cole Camp led 19-11 after 1 qtr. Sweet Springs regained the lead with three long-range baskets in the 2nd qtr. By mid qtr, 18 of their 20 game points were made from downtown. Bohon added a 3 of his own for Cole Camp, and great defensive hustle by Colton Dieckman to chase down a Greyhound. He tipped the ball away from behind, no foul! Cole Camp leading 29-25 at halftime. At least a couple games the Bluebirds have struggled coming out of the break. Happy to say, not this time! They scored the first 9, including a corner 3 by Blake Abey. Petersen and Dieckman both with 4 in the qtr, and a 3 from Brett Burdick pushed the lead to 47-34 end of 3. Peterson added 4 in the 4th and Bohon a basket and freethrow as Cole Camp celebrated their 54-37 victory! Brightens the mood for sure! Scoring: Petersen 13, Bohon 11, Dieckman 8, Abey 8, Phillips 6, Kaiser 3, Burdick 3, Clark 2. Rebounds: Petersen 9, Bohon 5, Kaiser 4. Junior Joey Rapp led Sweet Springs with 14. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for this article.

Early Out
The final segment of this quarter, the 8th Grade has been engaged in reading Night by Elie Wiesel. This powerful book tells the story of a Holocaust survivor as he shares his traumatic experiences, including the loss of family while facing the darkness of humanity. Wiesel’s testimony highlights the importance of preventing such atrocities from happening again. Their culminating project involved creating a quilt patch that incorporates significant quotes and images related to the text. Additionally, they wrote a reflective piece about the book. Presenting their completed “Quilt” Project!

Grades 9-12 parents!! Our district is allowed to use up to 5 AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) Days for Snow Days. This means that students can complete online assignments during the snow day and we won't have to make it up. If we have to cancel school due to weather, we may announce it as an AMI Day. Any student that completes their online assignment is counted "present" for that school day. Any student who does not complete the assignment is counted "absent" and the attendance policy will apply. We must have 90% or above completed in order to be able to say it was a successful "AMI Day". If the student will not have internet access, the student should tell their seminar teacher this week. Thank you!

Please put them in a safe place until we need them. If we have to cancel school due to weather, we will announce what AMI Day it is.
