Bluebird Basketball: Tigers Defeat Bluebirds in Regular Season Finale: Green Ridge was in Cole Camp February 20th for Varsity boys and girls basketball action.
Good start for the Lady Bluebirds leading 5-0 with Payten Brandt downing a 3. Green Ridge moved ahead by one before Kristin Carl with good defense and a basket put Cole Camp back on top. Madilynn Ogle hit a 3 and Dakota Dieckman a rebound putback and Cole Camp led 12-8.
Ogle buried her second 3 of the game opening the 2nd qtr. Then the Cole Camp offense kind of disappeared. As in no more scores in the qtr. Meanwhile Tiger senior Emery Cannon lit up the scoreboard with a pair of 3's and a 2-point fieldgoal. In all Green Ridge added 12 to lead 20 -15 at halftime.
Carl a pair of freethrows and a Katherine Timoshchuk fieldgoal were the sum total for Cole Camp points in the 3rd. Several turnovers didn't help the Bluebirds either. On the other end, Green Ridge (18-3 on the year), had an 11-point run at the end of the qtr to lead 36-19 after 3.
Green Ridge scored the first 10 of the 4th qtr as Cole Camp just wasn't able to get much going. Jolee Espey the only fieldgoal and Lauren Hesse a freethrow for Cole Camp in the last frame. Green Ridge won 53-22. Ten points for Cole Camp in the last 3 qtrs, hopefully they were saving extra baskets for Districts!
Scoring: Ogle 6, Carl 4, Dieckman 4, Brandt 3, Timoshchuk 2, Espey 2, Hesse 1. Jayden Box the leading Tiger with 14. Carl 8 rebounds, Ogle 6.
The Green Ridge Varsity boys were 17-7 beginning the evening. Not a lot of height, but quick ball handlers and three players averaging over 12 points per game. Those Tigers scored points quickly, as in four 3-pointers in the opening qtr. Bovey Clarke a 3 for Cole Camp. Green Ridge led 18-6 after 1.
Completely different 2nd qtr. Dasch Kaiser scored 4, and Blake Abey with a pair of 3's as Cole Camp outscored the Tigers 14-3. Halftime score Cole Camp 20, Green Ridge 21.

Bluebird Basketball: Bluebird Boys and Girls Extend Win Streak to Six! Cole Camp hosted Santa Fe for Varsity Basketball play on February 19th 2026.
The Lady Chiefs had a 17-8 record and average scoring about 43 points per game. Nearly same for Cole Camp at 15-8 and average a bit over 44 points per game.
Cole Camp had 6 rebounds before Lillyann Mellen put 2 points on the board. Fortunately Santa Fe only scored 8 in the qtr, so the score was Lady Chiefs 8-2 after 1.
Katherine Timoshchuk with a basket and 2 freethrows in the 2nd. Dakota Dieckman also a bucket but Cole Camp still trailed 8-13 at halftime.
Madilynn Ogle nailed a 3 early 3rd and Payten Brandt drew a charging foul on the Lady Chiefs. Perhaps opposing players don't expect a player of her size to stand tough, but Brandt has done so in quite a few games.
After a Santa Fe freethrow, Cole Camp flexed their abilities with an 11-0 run. Mellen a fieldgoal and 4 of 4 freethrows to lead the effort. Lauren Hesse a basket to end the qtr with Cole Camp up 25-18.
The Lady Bluebirds added more fuel to the fire with another 11 pt run opening the last qtr. Ogle with 5, Kristin Carl with 4 and Brandt 2 freethrows. Cole Camp won 40-24, holding Santa Fe nearly 20 points below their season average!
Scoring: Mellen 10, Carl 8, Ogle 8, Timoshchuk 6, Brandt 4, Dieckman 2, Hesse 2. Brandt 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Ogle 5 rebounds.
On to the Varsity Boys where the Chiefs were 8 - 16 on the year, quite an improvement over last year's one win season.
Colton Dieckman with 2 freethrows and a fieldgoal to open the 1st qtr for Cole Camp. Dieckman and Kolton Phillips with back-to-back scores mid-qtr helped maintain the lead at 12-9 after 1.
The Chiefs added 5 to take the lead early in the 2nd qtr. Dasch Kaiser a rebound put back for the tie followed. Later in the qtr, Bovey Clark with a pair of downtown 3's and Ty Loganbill a traditional 3-point play. But the Chiefs kept scoring as well and it was 25-25 at halftime.
Will Espey with very nice work near the basket scored 7 in the 3rd. Clark another two long range bombs as well. Defense makes a big difference also and Phillips came up with a dandy. A Santa Fe guard had the ball on the wing and a teammate made a dash to the basket. As the pass was headed to the Chiefs player, Phillips came flying down the lane to deflect the ball, no foul no basket! Great job! Cole Camp ahead 43-36 after 3.
Maybe a bit of acting by a Santa Fe player opening the 4th? It is not unusual before an inbounds play for players to jostle for position. Dieckman had put his arm out in one direction while looking another direction. When his arm touched a Chiefs player, that player fell over like it was major contact. And a foul call was made. So be it! About 10 seconds later Dieckman countered with a steal to layup combo for a 9-point lead. However Santa Fe started hitting 3 point shots, (4 in the 4th), and it was a 52-50 score with 40 seconds to go. You know it, free throw time. Kaiser, Phillips and Dieckman each made 2 of 2 freethrows to seal up a 58-50 victory!
Scoring: Clark 15, Dieckman 13, Espey 11, Phillips 8, Kaiser 6, Loganbill 5. Will Leabo with 14 pacing Santa Fe. Espey 10 rebounds, 4 blocks. Kaiser 7 rebounds, Phillips 5.

Bluebird Basketball: Cole Camp Sweeps Smithton in Late Season Matchup: Two qtrs of JV Basketball started the evening as the Tigers came visiting the Bluebirds. Cole Camp built and 8-0 lead with Colton Mellen scoring a long 3 early. About mid qtr, Mellen was almost on a breakaway for a layup but the Tiger defenders were breathing down his neck. A step from the basket, Mellen paused to let the defenders race by, then had an easy bucket. Micah Davis added 2 freethrows and Cole Camp led 11-4.
Landon Bauer and Chaning Alumbaugh each with 4 in the last qtr. Grant Kullman, Carter Noble and Colby Heimsoth rounded out the scoring. Cole Camp won 26-10.
Scoring: Mellen 7, Alumbaugh 6, Bauer 4, Kullman 3, Davis 2, Noble 2, Phillips 1, Heimsoth 1.
The very young Smithton varsity girls team is having a tough year record-wise but gaining lots of experience. The Lady Bluebirds have experienced that before, but this year they are 14-8 and counting.
Madilynn Ogle nailed 3 long range shots helping the Lady Bluebirds jump ahead 11-0. Building on that later, Payten Brandt dialed up a 3 and Lauren Hesse a basket at the buzzer for a 19-5 lead after 1.
Katherine Timoshchuk with 4 in the 2nd as did Kristin Carl. Seeing more floor time since Leah Allison is injured, Hesse with a nice rebound put back and an assist to a teammate for another score. One free throw was it for Smithton, so Cole Camp led 34-6 at halftime.
After Smithton scored 5 early 3rd qtr, Lillyann Mellen made a steal on the defensive end of the court. In traffic she went down on the floor but kept dribbling the ball avoiding a turnover. Seconds later she was back on her feet and away she went! She added 4 and Dakota Dieckman also a basket helping Cole Camp lead 44 - 19 after 3.
Alivia Haase led the Ladybirds in the 4th with a basket and 1 of 2 freethrows. Final score of Cole Camp 53, Smithton 27.
Scoring: Ogle 16, Mellen 10, Carl 8, Hesse 6, Timoshchuk 5, Brandt 3, Haase 3, Dieckman 2. Callie Goss with 18 for Smithton. Dieckman 8 rebounds, Ogle 7, Carl 5, Hesse 5.
Finally in the Varsity Boys game, Cole Camp came in 11-11 and Smithton at 4 -18.
Blake Abey with the first basket for Cole Camp, but an apparent ankle sprain immediately following caused him to leave the game. Smithton was hitting long range shots, three by Cory Pond, and they led 16-12 with 2:30 to go in the 1st. Then it was all Blue! A 15-0 run which included a pair of layups by Kolton Phillips and Will Espy with 4 points. And Bovey Clark who already had 6, did a quick turn and burn for the final basket of the qtr and a 27- 16 lead. A game's worth of free throws in the 1st qtr as Cole Camp made 10 of 18 opportunities.
Much calmer 2nd qtr as each team scored 10. Phillips led Cole Camp with 6 and the halftime score was 37-16.
Colton Dieckman with three fieldgoals mid 3rd qtr, equaling the Smithton output. If it wasn't already, Cole Camp put this game in the bank with Clark nailing three 3's and Phillips another 4. Cole Camp 60-34 after 3.
Brett Burdick a steal to layup combo pushed the lead to 30 early 4th. Whether it be the girls or boys games, Coach Shearer can be heard encouraging his players to "power up" when they have the ball near the basket. Espey did just that with a two-hand jam as part of his 8 in the final frame. And Phillips capped an excellent outing with another 4. Cole Camp with a season high 78-45 victory over Smithton.
Scoring: Phillips 19, Clark 17, Espey 15, Dieckman 14, Burdick 4, Loganbill 3, Abey 2, Kaiser 2, Davis 2. Pond with 23, 13 over average, for Smithton. Phillips 8 rebounds, Espey 5. Burdick 4 steals.
Varsity boys and girls have each won 5 in a row! Come out this Thursday and Friday night at 5 p.m. at home to wrap up the regular season!

Bluebird Basketball: For the second time in a week, Otterville and Cole Camp were at it on the basketball court, this the regular season matchup.
Before the Girls Varsity game even started there was a feeling of loss among Cole Camp fans seeing Leah Allison on crutches. Unfortunately during a midweek practice, she suffered a possible ACL injury that if confirmed would put her on an 8-10 month recovery schedule. Let's wish her the best!
Been several injuries lately putting trainer Maddie Fritz and her education to use. What a Blessing to have a person on staff whose training covers the basics of a wide range of medical conditions, including emergencies!
Last year the Otterville and Buncton girls had joined forces. This year Otterville is back on their own and sporting and 11-10 record with 7 players. Good for them.
Kristin Carl scored 4 of Cole Camp's 8 first qtr points, and that was good for an 8-7 lead.
Madilynn Ogle with a 3 touched off a 13-point flight for the Bluebirds in the 2nd qtr. Good production near the basket mid qtr as Dakota Dieckman and Katherine Timoshchuk each added 4. Otterville added 6 late, but another 3 by Ogle set the halftime score at Cole Camp 26-13.
Lillyann Mellen with 5 in the 3rd to lead Cole Camp. Three Lady Eagles added 2 each so the qtr ended with the Bluebirds leading 32-19.
Play got a bit woolly in the last qtr as several times a player or two from either side was on the floor but play continued. As you might imagine, Mellen was in the middle of the action recording steals, rebounds, or scoring the first 9 Cole Camp points in the qtr! The lead touched 20 before the lady Eagles scored the last 6 of the game so a Cole Camp 47-33 victory.
Scoring: Mellen 18, Ogle 10, Timoshchuk 7, Carl 6, Dieckman 6. Freshman Carrie Campbell had 13 leading the Eagles.
Rebounds: Mellen 9, Dieckman 8. Mellen 6 steals.
In the boys game the Eagles move ahead by 5 before Colton Dieckman scored the first of his 2 fieldgoals in the qtr. Later Bovey Clark sent a laser pass through traffic to Blake Abey who finished with a layup. Cole Camp led 14-11 after 1.
Trips to the freethrow line are an indication of the number of fouls called on the opposing team. Kolton Phillips efforts near the basket earned him 6 freethrow opportunities, making 4 early 2nd qtr. Will Espey added 4 midway as the lead gradually increased to Cole Camp 27-19 at halftime.
Courtwarming activities took place at halftime. Queen candidates were Addison Ives, Alivia Haase and Marilyn Hesse. Congratulations to Marilyn Hesse being chosen Queen!
Quick note on Marilyn. According to her mother Leslie, Marilyn's recovery from shoulder surgery is progressing well. She is regaining flexibility and strength with hopes of participating in softball.
Otterville's leading scorer Gabe Berry notched his 1000th career point early 3rd qtr. Berry added 12 in the qtr, but Cole Camp answered those and then some. A 17-2 blitz mid qtr led by Dasch Kaiser, Abey and Clark as they connected from all around the floor. Brett Burdick also tossed in a 3 so Cole Camp led 53-33 after 3.
Seven different Bluebirds scored in the last frame capped by a field goal from Micah Davis. Final of Cole Camp 68, Otterville 43.
Scoring: Abey 13, Phillips 12, Kaiser 10, Espey 10, Clark 8, Burdick 6, Dieckman 5, Loganbill 2, Davis 2. Berry with 24 for Otterville.
Rebounds: Kaiser 8, Espey 7, Phillips 6, Dieckman 5. Espey 5 blocks.

Bluebird Basketball: The LaMonte Vikings basketball teams were in Cole Camp Tuesday February 10th. Would they be able to snatch a late season victory?
Two qtrs of boys JV action and a very close first 7 minutes. Four different Bluebirds scored led by Jarrett Phillips with 4 and Colton Mellen with 3. Drake Shireman scored half of LaMonte's points. Cole Camp led 11-10 after 1 qtr.
An 8-0 run in 2 minutes of the last qtr pretty well decided this outcome. Phillips another 6. Micah Davis a full court run for a layup, and Grant Kullman a rebound put back as Cole Camp won the JV game 23-16.
Scoring: Phillips 10, Mellen 5, Davis 4, Kullman 4.
Nice to have the Cole Camp band on hand to provide music between games.
In the Varsity girls matchup, a slow Cole Camp start allowed the Lady Vikings to steam ahead 9-1. Junior guard Morgan Hall netted 7 of those. Payten Brandt a steal and basket late left the score at Cole Camp 5, LaMonte 9.
Baskets by Kristin Carl and Leah Allison tied the game early 2nd qtr. However not until Lillyann Mellen nailed a 3 mid qtr did the Lady Bluebirds move ahead. Thankful to see Mellen back on the court after having to leave the last game with an injury! Senior Sophia Parton kept the Vikings in the game scoring 10 from close range. A big boost for Cole Camp nearing halftime as Madilynn Ogle downed a pair of 3's plus a 2 pointer. Cole Camp added 25 in the 2nd qtr, but still just a 30-26 lead at halftime.
Cole Camp outscored LaMonte 12-6 in the 3rd qtr. Allison a traditional 3 and one from afar. Ogle also connected on another 3 and Carl 2 of 2 freethrows. Cole Camp 42-32 after 3.
Ogle another 5 in the last qtr. Let's hope she can achieve similar results as the season winds down. Final of Cole Camp 52, LaMonte 37.
Scoring: Ogle 16, Allison 15, Carl 8, Mellen 8, Brandt 2, Dieckman 2, Lauren Hesse 1. Hall had 19, Parton 14 for the Vikings. Carl 7 rebounds, Allison 6 and 4 steals.
Cole Camp entered the Boys Varsity game 9-11 and looking for a strong finish to the season. If tonight's production can be repeated, the Bluebirds may be able to pull it off!
Ty Loganbill was in the starting lineup and he got right to work scoring 9 in the 1st qtr! Assisted by passes from his teammates, Loganbill was moving towards the basket and usually good things follow. Couple 3's kept LaMonte within range. Cole Camp led 19-12 after 1.
Colton Dieckman with a traditional 3 pt play helped keep Cole Camp ahead, though only by two as Mauricio Lemus nailed a pair of 3's mid 2nd qtr for LaMonte. Blake Abey a nice switch of hands on a layup to avoid a block attempt by the Viking defense. Bovey Clark dialed in a pair of downtown 3's near the 2 minute mark. How about a little icing on that cake? Just a couple seconds before halftime, Will Espey went high in the air to grab a rebound and made a two-handed dunk on the way down! Sweet! Cole Camp 41-29 at intermission.
Cole Camp came out in the 3rd with a 10-2 run as the chemistry that sometimes has been hard to see was evident. That and a height advantage enabled the Bluebirds a 58-36 margin after 3.
Clark, Dieckman and Landon Bauer with long range 3's in the last qtr. Loganbill, Kaiser, and Espey with fieldgoals in the paint. Final of Cole Camp 75, LaMonte 49.
Scoring: Loganbill 15, Dieckman 14, Clark 14, Espey 10, Abey 10, Kaiser 5, Bauer 3, Phillips 2, Burdick 2. Lemus with 14 leading LaMonte. Rebounds: Abey 9, Espey 8, Loganbill 7.

Bluebird Basketball: Not to often are the same schools represented in the Boys and Girls Conference Tournament finals. Such was the case Friday February 6th as the Consolation finals took place at SFCC.
Strong start for the Lady Bluebirds with a 9 point burst out of the locker room! Lillyann Mellen 2 layups, Dakota Dieckman 2 of 2 free throws, and Payten Brandt nailed a 3. Freshman Carrie Campbell tossed in 5 for Otterville. Mellen and Brandt added 3's later and Cole Camp was up 16-8 after 1 qtr.
The lead touched 12 before Otterville completed a traditional 3-point play. Madilynn Ogle erased that with a long distance 3 mid qtr. Call her tenacious, relentless, or simply doesn't give up, Mellen scored the last 7 for Cole Camp in the 2nd qtr for a 30-17 lead at halftime. In the half, Mellen had 15 points, half a dozen rebounds and several steals.
Unfortunately Mellen's play time in the 3rd was very limited as she took a tumble under the basket and left the game. Who stepped up for Cole Camp? Leah Allison had the shooters touch from long and short distance scoring 9 in the 3rd! And the petite Brandt proved once again she is a tough defensive player. For the second time in the game, Brandt drew a charging foul on an Eagles player, and then shortly thereafter nailed a 3! Cole Camp up 46-24 after 3.
Coach Shearer cleared the bench in the last qtr. Cole Camp clinched the Girls Consolation Trophy with a 52-31 decision over Otterville.
Scoring: Mellen 15, Brandt 13, Allison 11, Ogle 5, Dieckman 4, Timoshchuk 2, Carl 2. Campbell led the Eagles with 16.
Following that at 9 p.m. February 6th the Bluebirds and the Eagles were at it again in the Boys bracket. Blake Abey a fieldgoal and free throw for Cole Camp, then the Eagles soared ahead via 3 point shots. They hit five 3's in the qtr, 3 of those by Gabe Berry. Bovey Clark matched one of those 3's and Ty Loganbill with a fieldgoal, but Cole Camp trailed 12-19 after 1.
Colton Dieckman with 6 in the 2nd leading the Bluebird attack. Kolton Phillips 2 of 2 freethrows, but Otterville matched the Cole Camp output and so the halftime score was Cole Camp 24, Otterville 31.
Nice work by Dasch Kaiser in the 3rd as he scored 6 near the basket. Clark also added 6, one long range, the other a traditional 3-point play. Will Espey also completed the basket plus freethrow combo helping Cole Camp nose ahead 41-40 at the end of 3.
The Otterville players appeared tired in the last qtr as they went scoreless for 5 minutes. Meanwhile Clark and Espey both with conventional 3 point plays. Dieckman a couple layups and Cole Camp had a 58-48 victory for the Consolation Title.
Scoring: Dieckman 12, Kaiser 12, Clark 12, Phillips 8, Espey 8, Abey 4, Loganbill 2. Great balance there! Cameron Krause with 22, Berry 21 for the Eagles.
In the Championship Finals on Saturday, the #1 seed Northwest Lady Mustangs faced #2 Green Ridge. Northwest lead 10-8 after 1. Green Ridge lead 18-12 at halftime, and still up 33-22 after 3 qtrs. But the Lady Mustangs came storming back in the 4th to claim a 44-43 final in a GREAT ballgame for fans to watch!
In the Boys Championship, Lincoln came in seated #1 and that's how they exited! Final score was Lincoln 53, Green Ridge 37. Congratulations to both! Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article!!!

Jh girls defeat Smithton 38-23
Good day of wrestling in Buffalo for the boys. Great competition with bigger schools to finish off the regular season.
Proud of all of our guys competing. Placing 1st was Grant Rodriguez at 165lbs, placing 4th in a super loaded 190lb class was Ziggy Archambault, and just missing the podium at 150lbs was Teagan Sharp who fell in the blood round.
In recent Duals the past two weeks against other schools the boys managed to pick up wins over Versailles, El Dorado Springs, Ewing Kauffman, and Raytown South. Finishing 12-4 on the season in team dual format. That is the best dual record in our short history of wrestling at Cole Camp. Kadin Curtis managed to win 3 of her last 4 matches in duals on the girls side.
Girls district wrestling starts Friday in Buffalo, the boys have a week off before going to Butler for district wrestling.
