Cole Camp Lady Bluebirds: Most likely all the girls that play volleyball for Cole Camp in grades 7 - 12 were in Hughesville October 17th. And what a beautiful night. Full moon overhead, harvest winding down, and a full court sweep for the Lady Bluebirds! In the first Junior High contest Cole Camp trailed 8-11, but momentum quickly changed. Charlotte Harper served 9 and Jolee Espy finished the set with 6 serves in a 17-1 march to the finish. Cole Camp won 25-12. Smaller but yet effective combinations by Cole Camp in the 2nd set resulted in the same 25-12 victory to wrap up the match. Two additional sets for Junior High were played by other 7th and 8th graders as both schools have ample players. Cole Camp won the first set of this match 25-21. Last Jr High set was a back and forth effort through mid-game. Trailing 13-16, Cole Camp put together a 12-1 string for a 25-17 final. How did the JV Lady Bluebirds keep the winning streak going? Maddie Florez served 11 in a row for an 18-3 lead in the first set. Leah Bauer with a couple kills late as Cole Camp claimed the set 25-11. Kristin Carl with 7 serves opening the second set. Kodi Dieckman and Kaitlyn Whitworth scored at the net and Cole Camp took the last JV set 25-12. Last regular season game for each Varsity team. Cole Camp was 15-11-1 and Northwest at 10-12-1. One of the better hitters in the conference is Northwest Junior Gabby Meyer. However Cole Camp may have more balance, so who would prevail? Andrea Dieckman blocked a Meyer shot, Meyer blocked Dieckman. So the tone was set early as Cole Camp barely led 11-10. From that point though Cole Camp pulled ahead of the Lady Mustangs. Marilyn Hesse and Leah Allison joined the hit brigade as Cole Camp won the first set 25 - 15. Ashlyn Russell with 4 serves opening the second set. Madilynn Ogle pitched in 4 serves midway as Cole Camp led 13-11. Ogle and Olivia Pilant do a lot of fancy footwork to be in the right place to assist their teammates with scoring. Despite a 5 point surge by Northwest late, Cole Camp held on for a 25-22 victory in the 2nd set. The 3rd set was as competitive as high school volleyball can get! Northwest would build a 2-3 point edge, then Cole Camp back to tie or go up by 1 or 2. Dieckman a left-handed kill and blocked a Meyer shot for a 13- 13 tie. Unfazed, Meyer responded with 2 kills before Mandy Goosen notched another kill for Cole Camp. Now tied at 19, Northwest gained a 3-point lead but then hit the ball out of bounds. Dieckman followed with two scores so knotted at 22. Hesse with the kill to lead 25-24, but Meyer tied it with a Mustang score. Northwest had possession with the score 26-26 but their serve went out of bounds giving Cole Camp the ball leading 27-26. Marilyn Hesse put a well placed serve over the net that the Lady Mustangs were unable to return so a great 28-26 victory for the Lady Bluebirds! Kills-Dieckman 15, Hesse 12, Goosen 9, Allison 8 Digs-Ogle 18, Goosen 12, Hesse 11, Allison 10, Pilant 7, Harrison 6 Assists-Pilant 25, Ogle 14 Blocks-Dieckman 9 Earlier in the season this game may have went the other way. But the Lady Bluebirds have kept working and are now reaping the rewards for their efforts. Keep it going! Thank you to Arthur Keuper for this article!!

Lady Bluebirds Volleyball: Cole Camp Jr. High, JV, and Varsity volleyball teams were all at Smithton October 15th. Junior High games were played in a 2nd gym while the JV and Varsity played in the main auditorium. In the JV game Cole Camp with a 4-point spurt and then an 11-2 run mid game secured a 25- 15 win in the first set. Smithton with the 4 pt start in the 2nd set and the Lady Tigers still led 15-14. After a Kristin Carl score regaining possession, Kaylan Poe served 5 which proved to be the margin needed. Cole Camp took the final set 25-20. Just a few days ago Cole Camp and Smithton varsity teams had split two sets during the Conference Tournament. Smithton also sporting a nice 15-7-1 record coming into tonight's play. Good defensive work by Kate Harrison and Leah Allison in the opening set. Junior Lady Tiger Aubree Huddleston is their leading hitter with 10 to 12 kills per game. Cole Camp was leading 14-13, however an 8-1 effort put Smithton ahead 21-19. Could Cole Camp close it out? Yes they did with a 6-1 finish to win 25-22. Mandy Goosen and Marilyn Hesse knocked down several scores in the 2nd set. Both can also play defense as Hesse turned around a Huddleston haymaker. With Olivia Pilant serving, Cole Camp led 21-10 and seemed to be cruising. But a 7 point streak by Smithton made it a game again real quick. Back and forth until a final hit by Goosen closed out a 25-22 win in the middle set. Andrea Dieckman and ace and several kills in the 3rd set. Cole Camp led 11-6 when Smithton Coach Laurel Oelrichs asked for a timeout. Her Lady Tigers responded with a strong midset to move ahead 20-18. Dieckman followed with a score and stuff and Cole Camp went on to squeak by with a 25-23 victory! Kills-Goosen 11, Dieckman 10, Hesse 8 Digs-Pilant 10, Hesse 9, Goosen 9, Allison 9, Ogle 6 Assists-Pilant 17, Ogle 14 Blocks-Dieckman 5 Cole Camp record is now 15-11-1. Thank you to Aurthur Keuper for this article.
