Lady Bluebirds Volleyball: The Cole Camp teams were in California October 7th for Varsity, JV, and C team volleyball.
The C team first set was tied at 10, then the Pintos ran away from Cole Camp with an 11-1 burst. Foreign exchange student Ines Alloza-Colomer from Italy, served an ace for Cole Camp late, but California won the first set 25-20.
Nice reverse early for Cole Camp in the 2nd set. Kaylan Poe served 5 in an 11-1 start. California countered with a 9 point answer. Close the rest of the set with Cole Camp eventually winning 25-22. No 3rd set was played by the C team.
Both JV teams had nice winning records coming into this match. Neither team had over a three-point string in the first set as Cole Camp led 19-17. However California closed out the set with an 8-1 effort to claim a 25-20 win.
Cole Camp an 8-2 margin in the 2nd set, however that disappeared midway as the Pintos rang up 7 in a row. Rylee Fairchild and Kodi Dieckman with scores at the net for a 21-15 lead. However (there's that word again that indicates trouble), the Pintos put together a strong 10-2 finish to win 26-24.
Great start to the varsity match for the Lady Bluebirds. Andrea Dieckman with scores and blocks at the net while Leah Allison served 4. Mandy Goosen a pair of Aces mid game for a 15-12 lead. Olivia Pilant several assists along the way, including one for Dieckman and her finishing hit in a 25-23 victory!
Dieckman served seven in a 9-2 opening to the second set. California pulled back within one, then Cole Camp back ahead by 5. A 6-point run for California produced a 21-21 tie, and a final 3-point string gave the Pintos an overtime 29-27 win.
After trailing by 6 early third set, Cole Camp earned their way back to within a one-point game midway. Couldn't quite get ahead though as the Pintos surged to a 25-17 margin in the third set.
Looked promising for the Lady Birds in the 4th set as they built a 13-7 lead. Marilyn Hesse a couple nice scores as it appeared the Pintos were tiring. Even the Official on the stand watching the net had two bottles of Power Ade with him preparing for a possible fifth set. Well all that changed as California scored 10 in a row and kept on going for a 25-17 win in the final set.
Kills-Dieckman 12, Goosen 11, Hesse 11, Allison 6, Ogle 5
Digs-Ogle 21, Pilant 15, Allison 15, Goosen 13, Hesse 10, Harrison 9
Assists-Pilant 26, Ogle 13
Blocks-Dieckman 17, Goosen 5
Perhaps sputter wasn't the proper word to use in describing this setback. After Googling the meaning of sputter, it said," to squirt particles of food from the mouth"! To be clear, NO floor cleanup was needed after this game!

Human Anatomy used microscopes to look at different types of tissues of the human body. They then reviewed their anatomical directions by playing a version of Battleship called "find my wound." They could only use anatomical terms to talk to their partners.
Forensics students learned about triangulating crime scenes and evidence and then later studied different types of search patterns by playing "Where's Waldo."

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp Junior High and Varsity teams traveled October 3rd to take on the Lady Vikings.
After a 5-5 start, the Jr High Lady Vikings went on a 13-2 march. That pretty well decided the 1st set as LaMonte won 25-16.
Nice reverse of fortunes in the 2nd set as Cole Camp built a 15-5 lead. They held that margin for a 25-14 win.
Third set was back in LaMonte's favor. A 7-1 lead early was enough to hold off a six-point string by Cole Camp with Jolee Espey serving. LaMonte won the 3rd set 15-11.
Because both schools have numerous girls on roster, a 4th set was played for additional court time. Cole Camp moved ahead 15-2 and finished it leading 25 -13.
No JV games so the varsity squads were next. LaMonte had a 7-10-1 record, more than double their wins over last year. However they were without one of their leaders due to an ankle injury.
Cole Camp took control early and didn't let up in the 1st set. With Marilyn Hesse serving 9, Cole Camp led 17-3. Olivia Pilant can play defense as well as setter, she had a very nice day early. Leah Allison is getting a better angle on her kill attempts and recorded several scores. Lady Bluebirds with a 25-8 win.
More of the same in the 2nd set. Andrea Dieckman served eight in a 12-2 start. Mandy Goosen several nice finishes off Madilynn Ogle assists. Cole Camp 25-9 in the second set.
In case some are not aware, Andrea Dieckman is a tall girl. Not sure exact height, but LaMonte likely felt she was about 7 ft tall. Dieckman had multiple blocks in each set! Regardless the score was tied at 16 midway through the 3rd set. Cole Camp then led 23-17, but a few Bluebird mistakes assisted the Vikings to pull within 24-23. At last, a Viking shot into the net sealed a 25-23 win for Cole Camp.
Kills-Dieckman 11, Goosen 10, Hesse 10, Allison 7
Digs-Hesse 9, Pilant 8, Goosen 7, Ogle 6
Assists-Pilant 19, Ogle 13
Blocks-Dieckman 14
