Lady Bluebird Volleyball: On what had been a welcome rainy day, the Lady Bluebirds were back in action at Lincoln on September 23rd 2025.
Both JV teams are having excellent years so far! Lincoln with a 6-0 record, Cole Camp at 9-0. So here we go.
Lincoln led 1-0 and then it was a string of Blue scores. Taylor Loganbill put down 8 in a row. Kristin Carl with 5 serves midway, and Addy Russell added 7 to lead 24-4. Several of the serves by Carl and Russell maybe were not technically aces, but had the same effect as the ball was not playable after first contact. Cole Camp 25-8 in the first set.
Cole Camp had an 8-2 lead in the next set, but a short struggle with returning the ball by Cole Camp gave Lincoln a 4-point spurt. Parent Andrew Hesse returned one wayward ball from the sidelines, but that didn't count either. Regardless the Lady Bluebirds tightened up play mid game forward. Leading 17-9, Maddie Flores served out the side with 8 in a row for a final of 25-9.
Coming off a tough battle with Versailles just 24 hours earlier, Cole Camp Varsity faced an improving Lincoln team with a 3-4 record overall and 1-1 in conference. Lincoln started 3 seniors, 2 Juniors and a sophomore. Cole Camp 3 seniors, 1 Junior and 2 sophomores.
Lincoln led 10-8 when Leah Allison served 4 to take the lead. Marilyn Hesse powered home several scores. No more than a 5-point spread during the 1st set. Andrea Dieckman denied several Lincoln kill attempts as Cole Camp took the opening set 25-21.
Mandy Goosen with a block and score early 2nd set, but still Lincoln led 9-8. Cole Camp recovered and built a 6-point lead with Madilynn Ogle serving midway. Olivia Pilant served the last 5 while Allison scored at the net for a 25-15 second set win.
Pilant a very nice dig early 3rd set which led to a kill by Andrea. Still as in the previous sets, Lincoln with the early lead at 8-5. Several balls came in contact with the gym roof, unfortunate in that the building is new.
Cole Camp regained the lead with an 8-1 effort midway. And a reverse of normal roles, Andrea and Hesse with sets and digs which Ogle finished with scores. Cole Camp claimed the Varsity sweep with a 25-21 third set victory.
Kills: Hesse 10, Andrea 7, Goosen 6, Allison 6, Ogle 4
Digs: Allison 12, Hesse 11, Ogle 10, Goosen 7, Pilant 6
Assists: Ogle 26
Blocks: Andrea 11, Goosen 6, Dakota 4

Lady Bluebirds Volleyball: The Lady Tigers were in town facing the Lady Bluebirds September 22nd 2025. Versailles led the C team game 5-1, but the Ladybirds stiffened. Lilly Mellen with a heck of a save tied the score at 6. Anna Peterson served five shortly thereafter as the margin grew. Several times in the set Jolee Espey with a duck kill. That is when a return from the opposing team is just hovering near the net like a duck ready to land on a pond. Easy for the hitter, Espey in this case, to add a point for the team. Cole Camp 25-16 in the 1st set.
The Lady Tigers touched the net several times in the 2nd set, resulting in Cole Camp points. Kaylan Poe with a pair of Aces midway and Rylan Stoppel notched a kill as Cole Camp finished the C team action up 25 -17.
Versailles led the first JV set 6-2, but the Ladybirds earned a tie at 9:00. A nice 7-1 effort later put Cole Camp ahead 20-13 and they finished it leading 25-20.
Taylor Loganbill with several aces in a 7-0 start to the 2nd set. But that didn't hold up very long. Versailles came storming back with the next 8! From there they led 13-9 and eventually won the 2nd set 25-22.
Even start to the 3rd set, then an 8-1 offensive by the Lady Bluebirds to lead 13-5. Maddie Flores a kill and ace. Rylee Fairchild a score and near block helping the lead reach 18-10. Riley Raetz and Kristin Carl nice digs to wrap up a 25-14 win to take 2 of 3 JV sets.
Versailles Varsity came in at 3-7-1 and Marilyn Hesse was back in the starting lineup for Cole Camp.
The Lady Tigers led early but by mid 1st set Cole Camp earned eased back ahead by 3. Kate Harrison nearly did the splits making a return, but she kept the ball off the floor! Madilynn Ogle and Andrea Dieckman were doing their thing at the net and a 20-17 lead looked promising. But Versailles scored 8 of the last 10 to win the 1st set 25-22.
Andrea with 7 serves in the 2nd set to help build an 11-5 lead. Hesse and Mandy Goosen strong hits throughout and Cole Camp took the 2nd set 25-13.
Ogle set up camp in the servers box in the 3rd set. A handful of aces included in her 13 in a row! Even with a 6 pt response late by Versailles, Cole Camp took the set 25-13.
Ogle another 6 in a row in the 4th set and you might think Cole Camp was in control. And the Lady Bluebirds still led 14-8 midway, but the Lady Tigers weren't shaken. With a 14-3 assault, they moved ahead by 5 and held on to win 25-22.
The Versailles Coach said her team has really jelled recently and they once again proved that point in the last set. They led 11-4 and the set would end that 15. Could the Lady Bluebirds make a statement yet? Seniors Goosen and Hesse led to charge back to a 14-14 tie! However the last 2 points went to Versailles so they won the 5th set 16 -14. Four and a half hours of volleyball action, that's about enough for one night!
Kills: Andrea 15, Hesse 12, Goosen 12, Allison 5
Digs: Allison 24, Hesse 15, Ogle 12, Goosen 11, Pilant 7, Dakota 7,
Harrison 6
Assists: Ogle 41
Blocks: Andrea 8, Goosen 7
Aces: Ogle 7

While details are sketchy at this point, Cole Camp R-1 is aware of an apparent shooting in Versailles earlier this morning. As of our last update, the perpetrator(s) fled the scene. This was not a school shooting. Morgan Co. R-II is on a four day week. All authorities are working to update authentic information as it becomes available. We are actively monitoring this situation but our buildings are not on shelter in place notice.

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Since their 250th win came on the road, a short program was held at Cole Camp September 18th to honor Head Coach Abby Massingill and Assistant Coach Brooke Ogle on reaching this milestone. Passion was the word used to describe Abby's association with volleyball. From being a setter on the 1993 team that finished 2nd in state, to averaging nearly 20 wins a year since 2013 as a Coach. Congratulations Abby and Brooke on your success!
The Lady Eagles of Otterville were the opponent on the 18th and Aspen Meyer dealt a pair of aces in a 6-0 start. Mid game Addison Brockman with 5 serves, and Kristin Carl nearly finished it with 7 in a row. Cole Camp 25-9 in the opening JV set.
Otterville with a 10-9 lead mid 2nd set. Still just the 3 point spread till Addy Russell served 5 that enabled Cole Camp a 2516 win to wrap up the JV sets.
The Varsity Lady Eagles are a very young team but have won about half of their games. Leah Allison with a string of 11 serves leading up to mid 1st set. Maddie Flores with several kills as once again Marilyn Hesse and Olivia Pilant did not play. Emily Cano with 5 serves late and Mandy Goosen several scores. Cole Camp 25-7 in the first set.
Goosen 3 kills in a row as Cole Camp build a 10-3 lead. Otterville gave it a go mid game to stay within single digits. However and 8-1 closeout gave the 2nd set to Cole Camp 25-11.
Andrea Dieckman with 7 serves early third set. Dakota Dieckman a nice kill and Kate Harrison a couple nice plays on the back line. Lady Eagle Halle Morrison, a sophomore with very nice hustle tracking down returns for her team. Cole Camp won the third set 25-12 for the Coaches 251st victory!
Kills: Goosen 13, Andrea 11, Flores 10, Allison 5
Digs: Goosen 6, Cano, Allison, Ogle 5 each
Assists: Ogle 36
Blocks: Andrea 3
