The Cole Camp Varsity Ladies picked up their 3rd win of the year with a 22 point thumping of the Sacred Heart Lady Gremlins on January 27th. Could the Cole Camp boys somehow do the same against the Gremlins on the 28th? Sacred Heart led the JV game 6-0 when freshman Micah Davis hit a 3 for Cole Camp. Will Espey quickly added 2, but then the Gremlins pulled away. Lot of foul calls on Cole Camp as Sacred Heart had 11 opportunities from the charity stripe in the first qtr alone. Sacred Heart ahead 18-7 after 1. Davis added 5 in the 2nd qtr to lead Cole Camp. Sacred Heart Is quick and soon they were up 31-15 by halftime. Brett Burdick with a freethrow and fieldgoal in the 3rd. Ty Loganbill also a basket, but the Gremlins were leading 41-22 after 3. A nice 12-1 run for Cole Camp mid 4th qtr! Bovey Clark led the charge with 7, Davis 3 and Burdick a steal to layup combo! However the margin never got to single digits as Sacred Heart closed it out 52-38. JV scoring: Davis 13, Burdick 9, Clark 7, Espey 4, Abey 2, Loganbill 2, Bauer 1. Two Gremlins had 12 each. Nice to have the Cole Camp band playing at the games. Little low on numbers but these students are learning and sharing their abilities! Cole Camp fell behind 2-9 in the varsity match. Connor Petersen paced the Bluebirds with 4. By scoring the last 6, Sacred Heart led 17-6 after 1. Colton Dieckman popped in 7 in the 2nd qtr, including a traditional 3-point play. Burdick a pair of baskets also for the Bluebirds who trailed 17-30 at halftime. Petersen with 4 in the third, Blake Abey a long range 3 and Dasch Kaiser a traditional 3-point play. Despite this effort, the Gremlins increased their lead to 45-31 with a qtr to go. The Gremlins scored the first 11 of the last period. Bauer and Burdick eventually scored 3 each and Joseph Hatfield added a field goal at 1 minute to go. Final score of Sacred Heart 58, Cole Camp 39. Scoring: Dieckman 11, Petersen 8, Burdick 7, Abey 5, Kaiser 3, Bauer 3, Hatfield 2. Connor Brown led the Gremlins with 18. Word from the bleachers. A first time visitor from Russellville during their recent game at Cole Camp said, "I love this gym!" Nice comment. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article.

Cole Camp Bluebird Girls and Boys Basketball: Russellville basketball teams were in Cole Camp for somewhat rare Saturday midday matchups. Would a daylight game on a weekend help the Bluebirds win? Varsity girls score stood at 3-2 favoring the Indians midway in the opening qtr. Marilyn Hesse had 5 rebounds in the first 2:30. Then in a 1:30 time frame, their leading scorer K'Lea Basnett scored 10 in a row. Russellville up 15-4 after 1. Madilynn Ogle knocked down a pair of 3's early 2nd qtr, narrowing the margin to 7. But a combination of Bluebird turnovers and another 14 by Basnet made the halftime score 37-15 Cole Camp trailing. Kind of unfortunate for Katherine Timoshchuk being whistled for 2 quick fouls. From the stands looked like the person she was guarding was pushing just as much. Regardless the game went on. Kaitlyn Whitworth and Emma Thayer combined for 5 in the third qtr. Russellville matched that plus 6 more to lead 48-20 after 3. Ogle and Payten Shoemaker found the range from 3 pt land in the 4th. Shoemaker did it twice! However the Lady Indians prevailed 53-31. Scoring: Ogle 13, Shoemaker 6, Hesse 4, Whitworth 4, Thayer 3, Moellman 1. Basnett with 32 for the Lady Indians. The Varsity Boys of Russellville had an 11-6 record coming to town and average about 64 points per game. Cole Camp has averaged just under 40 points per contest. Teams almost matched each other shot for shot except for a 5-point spurt midway for the Indians. Colton Dieckman with 7, Blake Abey with 5 for the Bluebirds. Score after one qtr was Russellville 21, Cole Camp 14. The Russellville Coach said prior to the game his team liked a fast pace, create turnovers, and hit some 3's. The turnover statement held true as his players went on a 14-1 run mid-second qtr. By halftime, the Indians led 42-21. Russellville connected on five 3's coming out of intermission. When they fall, it adds up fast. However a very nice offensive qtr for Kolton Phillips scoring 8. Kolby Bohon added a 3 but Cole Camp now trailed by 28 after 3. Dasch Kaiser scored 4 in the 4th. Clark and Burdick 2 each as the clock expired showing Russellville at 69, Cole Camp 43. Scoring: Dieckman 13, Phillips 8, Kaiser 8, Abey 7, Bohon 3, Clark 2, Burdick 2. Freshman Trae Jennewein led the Indians with 17. Kaiser 8 rebounds, Dieckman 6. Only home game left is vs Sacred Heart on the 28th of Jan. Then all road games. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article.

Cole Camp Bluebird Basketball: A very nice crowd was on hand January 24th as the Bluebirds celebrated Homecoming! A slow start for the JV Bluebirds as they trailed 2-8 in the first qtr. Fortunately Bovey Clark nailed a 3 at the buzzer, so just a 3-point difference after 1. There are rules limiting players to a total of 6 qtrs per night. For example, Blake Abey did not participate in the first or last JV quarters so that he could play in all four varsity quarters. There are others on the Cole Camp roster handled the same way. In the 2nd JV qtr Abey hit a pair of 3's plus two other baskets for 10 points. Landon Bauer and Dasch Kaiser with 2 each also, and it took 'em all to catch the Bulldogs for a 21-21 tie at halftime. Abey was nearly a one-man scoring machine in the third scoring 14 of Cole Camp's 15. He also recorded several steals and rebounds. Cole Camp led 36-31 after 3. Ty Loganbill with a fieldgoal and two freethrows in the final frame. Micah Davis and Will Espey also tossed in scores as Cole Camp won 45-33. Scoring: Abey 24, Loganbill 6, Davis 4, Clark 3, Kaiser 3, Bauer 3, Espey 2. Blake Narin with 13 leading Stover. Congrats to Lady Bluebirds basketball team member MacKenzie Moellman being crowned Queen between games! With a combined record of 5-20, Cole Camp and Stover varsity teams are both experiencing painful seasons. A good opening qtr for the Bluebirds led by Kolton Phillips and Blake Abey with 4 each. Kolby Bohon a steal to layup combo helped build a 5 point lead. However the Bulldogs tied it up late at 13-13 after 1. Stover took control of this game with a 16-1 run in the 2nd qtr. They handled the ball well and connected on three long range baskets plus a conventional 3-pt play. Halftime score of Stover 31, Cole Camp 19. Clark a 3, 2-pt baskets by Phillips and Abey, and a Kaiser freethrow where the extent of Cole Camp scoring in the 3rd. By scoring the last 7 of the qtr, Stover now led 43-27. That 43 is Stover's season average per game, so maybe if they wouldn't score in the 4th, a Cole Camp come back? Phillips with 4 early helped narrow the margin to 11, but no closer. Spencer Godwin with a freethrow for Cole Camp at 3.5 seconds left the final at Stover 56, Cole Camp 41. Scoring: Abey 12, Phillips 10, Clark 6, Bohon 4, Dieckman 4, Petersen 2, Kaiser 2, Godwin 1. Gavin Welpman with 16, Dylan Brodersen 15 pacing the Bulldogs. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article.
