Ziggy loses a tough match to end his season. Great efforts from all our Bluebirds!!

Cole Camp faced Windsor in a semi-final game played at 7:30 on February 26th. Having won 3 of their last 5, the Bluebirds were looking to build on a late season surge.
Unfortunately for the Blue crew, Windsor built a 7-2 lead by mid 1st qtr. Kolby Bohon accounting for Cole Camp's points with free throws. Blake Abey with the other basket in the qtr and Cole Camp trailed 4-10 after 1.
Colton Dieckman with 4 early second qtr. However the Greyhounds kind of broke the doors open on this game with a 9-0 run just past mid qtr. Windsor was up 26 - 14 at halftime.
The lead touched 18 early in the third before Kolton Phillips made a freethrow and Bovey Clark a 3. Cole Camp shots seem to bounce off the rim and not many rebounds by the Bluebirds. Dasch Kaiser with 3 of 4 freethrows and Phillips a nice rebound put back prior to the buzzer left the score 25-41 favoring Windsor after 3.
Ryan Millington added 4 to that for Windsor early 4th qtr. Down by 20, but the Bluebirds did not roll over! Dieckman scored 7, Bohon and Kaiser 2 each and the margin was down to 10 at 2:55 to go. Phillips a couple big steals in that run also. But that was as close as Cole Camp would get. Bohon hit a 3 at 41 seconds in his last game as a Bluebird. Final score of Windsor 54, Cole Camp 42.
Scoring: Dieckman 13, Bohon 7, Phillips 6, Clark 5, Abey 5, Kaiser 5, Petersen 1. Millington with 18 leading the Greyhounds. Phillips with 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
So another schedule has been completed and the Cole Camp record was 5 - 17. Admittingly a slim year but these team members made good progress during the season. This year's growing pains will likely lead to a much better outcome in the future!
Today's students will be our caretakers tomorrow, let's support each other! Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article!!

The boys had a tough game but couldn't get enough shots to go in. Unfortunately, the boys' season comes to an end tonight in the district semifinals. We are proud of your hard work and sportsmanship all season.

The Class 2 District 8 Girls basketball playoffs are taking place at Tipton High School starting February 25th at 4:30 p.m.. Tipton of course is #1, followed by New Franklin, Russellville, Eugene, Cole Camp, Slater and Smithton.
Cole Camp had 7 wins on the season, Eugene had 4 at the start of the game. Eugene is led by a scoring machine in sophomore Ryleigh Kliethermes. She is averaging nearly 24 points per game and needed just 1 point to hit 1000 in just her 2nd year.
Kliethermes got her 1000th with a 3 just over a minute into the game. But after trailing by 5, Cole Camp scored the next 10! MacKenzie Moellman with 3, Payten Shoemaker with a steal and layup, and Madilynn Ogle with a rebound put back and a long range 3. For the qtr, Shoemaker with 3 steals and a blocked shot. Yes perfect timing on her jump allowed the petite Shoemaker to foil an Eagles shot. Cole Camp up 10-7 after 1.
Cole Camp held a narrow lead till late 2nd qtr. Eugene put together a 10-1 run and so led 22-17 going into the locker room.
Emma Thayer and Marilyn Hesse with 3's after the break put Cole Camp back in the lead. Kliethermes with multiple drives to the basket, and finished most with scores. However Leah Allison countered with 4, and Ogle another 3. On a last second shot, Shoemaker was fouled and made 2 of 3 freethrows. This put Cole Camp ahead 32-31 after 3.
Back and forth in the 4th. Two huge 3's by Thayer mid qtr gave Cole Camp a 3-point lead. Another sophomore for Eugene, Claire Wilburs did some nice work near the basket scoring 6 in the qtr. Down by 3, Ogle hit a game saving 3 at 30 seconds and the Cole Camp defense denied Eugene a score, so regulation time ended at 43-43.
Just 24 hours earlier, the Bluebird boys pulled out an overtime win. Could the Ladies do the same? You bet they did! Trailing by 3 after 2 minutes of overtime, Allison nailed a 3 and then a steal to layup combo! Ogle made it a 4 point lead with a pair from the charity line at 55 seconds. Then by making 4 of 7 freethrows in the last 40 seconds, the Lady Bluebirds clinched a well-earned 54-47 District victory in overtime!
Scoring: Ogle 17, Allison 12, Thayer 9, Moellman 6, Shoemaker 6, Hesse 4. Kliethermes with 26 for Eugene. Rebounds Moellman 8, Allison 8, Ogle 6. Shoemaker 5 steals. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article.

The Class 3 District 13 basketball bracket includes the following teams. Warsaw #1, followed by Sherwood, Windsor, Lone Jack, Stover, Holden and Cole Camp. Games took place at Windsor High School on February 24th.
Cole Camp 4-16 and Sherwood 12 - 13 tipped off at 4:30 and a good start for the Bluebirds. Sherwood had blocked a Cole Camp attempt near the basket, but Kolton Phillips alertly picked up the loose ball and powered up a basket. Blake Abey with a 3 helped Cole Camp to an early 7-0 lead. Freshman Bradyn Polzin scored 6 for Sherwood. Colton Dieckman added 4 late and Cole Camp led 11-10 after 1.
Sherwood with a 12-3 advance made for an 8-point lead with 3:30 left in the 2nd. Connor Petersen came in off the bench and pitched in 5. Kolby Bohon with his 2nd fieldgoal of the qtr pulled Cole Camp within 1. By halftime, the score was tied at 23.
Dieckman with 4 in the 3rd, Dasch Kaiser, Bovey Clark and Petersen each 2. Two may not sound like a lot, but in playoff games a single basket, block, or turnover can be major! Cole Camp with a 33-32 advantage after 24 minutes.
Sherwood moved ahead by 4 by mid 4th qtr. Dieckman a 2 and Abey a 3 put the Bluebirds back up by 1. Sherwood a 3 at 41 seconds for a two-point lead, but Dieckman tied it up again with a basket at 30 seconds. Several timeouts and attempts later, the score was tied at 40 at the end of regulation.
After Sherwood scored, Dieckman and Phillips both with baskets putting Cole Camp ahead by 2 at 1:45. Freethrow contest from there on. Sherwood made 2 of 4 and Cole Camp made 3 of 6. Enough for Cole Camp to seal up a 47-44 victory! Got to be happy for the team to win after such a challenging year!
Scoring: Dieckman 15, Petersen 10, Bohon 8, Abey 6, Phillips 4, Clark 2, Kaiser 2. Polzin led Sherwood with 17, just about his season average. Petersen with 7 rebounds. Bluebirds play again at Windsor February 26th around 7:30. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article.
