Some high school art students attended the annual Kaysinger Art Contest at Liberty Park today. They did such a good job, filing in the picture planes, giving elements layers, vibrancy, and mimetic qualities. The students also competed in a sidewalk chalk group competition. Winners at the contest included: freshman Mary Jade Ridenour, 4th Place in Mixed Media; senior Laura Zimmerman, 2nd Place in Graphite; sophomore Brooklyn Taylor, 2nd Place in Charcoal; and senior Anah Waynick, 1st place in Ink/Marker. Congratulations, Cole Campers!!

Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Rogers
Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp hosted Green Ridge October 7th hoping to take another step towards regular season Conference titles. Both Varsity and JV teams did just that!
First JV set was close early, as in a 7-7 tie before the Ladybirds made some noise mid game. Maddie Flores with several kills as Cole Camp put together a 9-2 effort. Addison Brockman also with scores as the home team won the first set 25-16.
Green Ridge led the second set by a 7-2 margin before Kristin Carl dealt out a couple aces. With the score 9-9, Addy Russell with great hustle to set the ball for her teammates, and then finish that rally with a score. Still only an 18- 15 lead when Carl was next to serve. With the help of Taylor Loganbill and Rylee Fairchild kills, Carl served 7 to wrap up a 25- 15 victory for the JV ladies.
Green Ridge Varsity is a very young team. How young? One senior, 2 juniors, 7 sophomores and 9 freshmen on the roster.
Marilyn Hesse with 3 kills in the first 5 points of the game. Andrea Dieckman, Olivia Pilant and Leah Allison shared serving honors with 4 each. Cole Camp cruised to a 25-8 win in the 1st set.
Mandy Goosen a couple kills while Hesse served 6 in the 2nd set. Pilant appeared quite comfortable in the serving lane as she put 9 over the net for a 20-3 lead. Great reflexes by Allison as she made a one arm save that went back over the net for a score. Cole Camp 25-9 in the middle set.
Dakota Dieckman a kill early 3rd set, but the Lady Tigers played well enough to lead 9-8 nearing midway. After a 14- 14 tie, Cole Camp flexed their wings with an 8-1 game-changing effort. Andrea with several kills, but give Green Ridge freshmen Whitney Rupe an A for effort! She hit the floor hard trying to dig up Cole Camp hits. Ladybirds 25-18 in the 3rd set for their 17th win of the year!
Kills: Hesse 7, Allison 7, Andrea 6, Goosen 5, Dakota 3
Digs: Allison 9, Hesse 8, Harrison 6, Ogle 5, Goosen 4
Assists: Ogle 23
Blocks: Andrea 4, Allison 4, Goosen 3
Right back at it tonight October 8th in Conference Tournament pool play. Cole Camp scheduled to play Lincoln at 5:45. Come on out!

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: For those Cole Camp fans who missed or left the volleyball games early October 6th, you might ought to kick yourself. The Varsity Ladies pulled out a dandy!
The California Lady Pintos were in Cole Camp monday evening and they are traditionally a strong program.
C team action began at 5 p.m. and Cole Camp kinda scored in bunches and California one or two at a time. Adilynn Craig with several digs and kills. Aspen Meyer with the longest serve run of 5 closed out a 25- 15 first set win.
Lauren Hesse served 5 as part of a 10-2 start in the 2nd set. Much like the 1st set, Cole Camp rolled to a 25- 14 final in the last set.
The Cole Camp JV team, riding high after winning their JV tournament this past Saturday, has yet to be defeated. They continued that streak vs the 14-4-1 California team.
No runaway but a steady march out to a 11-7 lead when Addy Russell dropped in 5 serves. Maddie Flores a couple kills, and Rylee Fairchild keeping the ball above the floor helped Cole Camp win 25 - 15 in the first set.
Kristin Carl back to back kills early 2nd set. Cole Camp led 12-2 and went on to finish it up 25-13.
Cole Camp Varsity with a record of 15-2-2 and California at 17-4-4 suggested a power struggle was in store. And it was!
The Lady Pintos jumped ahead 9-2 with Claire Peterson scoring kills early. Marilyn Hesse and Olivia Pilant multiple digs but California increased their lead to double digits midway. Lady Pintos 25-18 in the first set.
California led the 2nd set 6-2 until kills by Hesse and Mandy Goosen slowed their progress. Kate Harrison on the back row defensively as Cole Camp worked back to a 15-15 tie. A quick 6-1 spurt down the stretch gave Cole Camp enough margin to claim the 2nd set 25-20.
Not a great start for Cole Camp in the 3rd set. Andrea Dieckman with a block of hard hitting Natalie Booth was pretty, but the Lady Pintos still galloped out to a 13-7 lead. Pilant with a big time turnaround of a Booth smash, but California claimed the set 25-21.
Goosen several blocks in the 4th set as the Lady Pintos have several capable hitters in their lineup. Dakota Dieckman a kill and a block by Andrea helped Cole Camp move ahead 13-11 midway. Cole Camp parent Amber Flores was serving as line judge and she stood her ground and made the calls amidst a flurry of activity. Allison several kills as Cole Camp was fighting for survival. And survive they did with an overtime victory of 26-24!
First team to 15 in the fifth set would be the winner. Kills by Goosen and Allison helped build a 5-2 lead and the Lady Bluebirds would not be denied! After a long rally, Andrea with the finish for a 10-6 lead. Goosen with a dig and Hesse with a tip at the net to lead 13-7. And finally, Andrea and Dakota with great digs during the final rally which Hesse ended with a score for a 15-9 victory!
Kills: Goosen 14, Hesse 12, Allison 12, Andrea 11
Digs: Pilant 24, Hesse 20, Goosen 18, Harrison 18, Ogle 17, Andrea 6,
Dakota 6. Holy Smokes! That may be a record for digs in a single game!
Assists: Ogle 43
Blocks: Goosen 13, Andrea 6, Allison 4
Great win Lady Bluebirds, keep it going!

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp hosted LaMonte October 2nd for volleyball action, but outside temperatures were conducive to baseball or softball.
First JV set went fairly quick. Taylor Loganbill served 9 in a 10-0 start. Both teams scored 6 midway, then Riley Raetz served 8 that closed out the set 25-6 for Cole camp. Maddie Flores with 4 kills in that last run.
LaMonte led the 2nd set by 3 for the first 1/3 of the set. But Lauren Hesse helped erase that and a whole lot more as she served 14 in a row! That's almost long enough to make a dash to the concession stand. Cole Camp took the 2nd JV set 25-14.
The Varsity Lady Vikings were 9-8 coming into the evening, which is a big improvement over last year for Head Coach Vanessa Green and her team.
Cole Camp with a 3 pt lead when Marilyn Hesse dropped in a pair of aces in a 7-point surge for the home team. Dakota Dieckman a nice set for Mandy Goosen to kill, one of several for Goosen in the opening set. And Olivia Pilant a nice dig to keep a rally going while Leah Allison was serving the last 6. Cole Camp 25-7 in the first set.
Great defensive work in the 2nd set as Allison tracked down a ball headed for the trainers office. She got the ball up far enough so that Hesse could make a long and accurate return over the net. Cole Camp up 11-1. Goosen and Andrea Dieckman with kills as usual, but others joined in the fun as well! Head Coach Abby Massingill worked in several of her reserve players, and Alivia Haase with a pair of kills! Cole Camp 25-12 in the 2nd set.
Cole Camp led the third set 5-1, but don't go to the bank just yet! Due to a few Cole Camp errors and failed returns, the Lady Vikings found themselves leading 11-10 nearing midpoint. Allison helped save the ship with 6 serves moving forward and a 4-point string at the end gave Cole Camp a 25- 16 final for another victory!
Kills: Goosen 13, Andrea 7, Hesse 4, Haase 2
Digs: Hesse 15, Ogle 9, Pilant 6, Allison 6, Goosen 5, Carl 3
Assists: Ogle 26
Blocks: Andrea 8, Hesse 4
According to Assistant Coach Brooke Ogle, Cole Camp will play two games Wednesday, two on Thursday and then Saturday, all as part of the Conference Tournament next week in Cole Camp.

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp traveled to Sacred Heart September 30th with a nice following supporting the Ladybirds in a tough environment.
Kristin Carl with several kills in the opening JV set as Cole Camp held a slight advantage midway. Riley Raetz with an on the floor face down dig might have been the spark for a 15-3 offensive outburst for Cole Camp. Aspen Meyer served the last 8 of that run for a 25-10 win.
Carl with a hard hit in the 2nd set that was right in line with the Sacred Heart line judge. He made a run for the bleachers for safety. Maddie Flores with several scores also, but still only a 1 pt difference mid game. Well a very strong finish from there as Cole Camp outscored Sacred Heart 15-4. Addy Russell with the last 6 serves as Cole Camp won 25-13.
Now for the varsity game. Cole Camp has a better win/loss record then the 6-4 Lady Gremlins, but anyone can win on a given night.
Cole Camp regained a little breathing room as Olivia Pilant served 5 for an 11-8 lead. Sacred Heart back ahead by 3, then several hits by Mandy Goosen for an 18-18 tie. Marilyn Hesse with a tremendous dig and great teamwork was finished by Leah Allison with a kill. Cole Camp squeaked out a 25-23 first set victory!
Sophomore Addison Figge, who averages 15 kills per game, is a real threat at the net for Sacred Heart. Thankfully the net jumped up and grabbed a few of her kill attempts. Hesse and Kate Harrison with great defensive efforts as Cole Camp gradually added to their margin for a 25-19 decision in the 2nd set.
A couple long rallies came to an end as Andrea blocked Sacred Heart kill attempts. Dakota Dieckman with a block and kill also early third set. Still Sacred Heart held at 12-11 lead, with half a set to go. Every once in awhile Ogle will make a short set which means the defense has less time to react. Andrea powered a couple such sets home for winners. With Hesse serving 4 late, Cole Camp put together an 8-1 finish and a 25- 15 victory. Maybe not the sharpest played game for Cole Camp, but a big W still goes in the books!
Kills: Goosen 14, Andrea 8, Allison 6, Hesse 4
Digs: Hesse 13, Allison 9, Pilant 8, Ogle 8, Goosen 7, Harrison 5
Assists: Ogle 29
Blocks: Andrea 9, Goosen 5, Dakota 3
Five home games plus the Conference Tournament all coming up at Cole Camp. Better come on out and support the Lady Bluebirds in their bid to make a historic run!

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: September 29th Tipton came to Cole Camp for three levels of play. In the C team game, Jolee Espey with a string of 8 serves kind of set the tone. Lauren Hesse tracked down a ball at the stage to keep it in play. Cole Camp 25-7 in the first set.
Not quite as lopsided in the 2nd set though Cole Camp was ahead throughout. Leah Allison was serving as a line judge and kudos to her for being honest! One of the Bluebird C team members was serving and stepped on the inline which is a no no. Allison quickly raised the flag, even though the call likely didn't change the outcome of the game. Good example of doing the job correctly! Adeline Tsipan with a couple scores as Cole Camp won the 2nd set 25 - 15.
JV game vs Tipton featured Kristin Carl with 10 in a row for a 16-4 lead. Final of 25-11 in the 1st set.
Very close 2nd JV set. Tipton with a 4-point string, Cole Camp a 5-point string, all others were less. Tipton led 14-12 midway and pulled out a 25-20 win forcing a 3rd set.
That 3rd set looked awfully red to begin with as the Lady Cardinals led 8-1. But a most timely timeout called by Coach Ogle had the Lady Bluebirds flying back with an 11-2 effort. Later Taylor Loganbill served 6 as part of a 10-1 closeout for the 25-15 victory!
Tipton Varsity had a 12-6-2 record coming into Cole Camp and they led 13-10 in the opening set. Madilynn Ogle with a couple aces in her 8 serves as Cole Camp moved back ahead. Mandy Goosen with a big time block of a bomb by Tipton senior Ava Schlotzhauer helped secure a 25-17 first set win.
Tipton up 7-3 in the next set and they still add 19 - 17. Good action by both teams, so who would rise above? With a 6-1 finish the Lady Bluebirds took the set 25-22. Andrea Dieckman with 3 kills and a left-handed tip in that spurt!
Scholtzhauer got her share of kills, but Andrea and Goosen turned several around quicker than they came in! Cole Camp up by 4 midway, then a tie at 20. Once again Andrea with 2 scores and a block as Cole Camp pulled out a 25-23 victory for another sweep!
Kills: Andrea 12, Goosen 10, Hesse 6, Dakota 3
Digs: Allison 15, Ogle 13, Hesse 10, Goosen 9, Pilant 6
Assists: Ogle 30
Blocks: Andrea 14, Goosen 9, Dakota 3
Aces: Ogle 6
