Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp traveled to Concordia on a warm and dry September 10th. Farmers across the area could certainly use a good rain. Yet fear not, for the Good Lord will supply what's best in the long run!
Concordia JV team had a 2-0 record starting the evening, and they led 7-2 early. That quickly changed as Kristin Carl served 4 for the tie. Addy Russell put in 7 serves for a 15-8 lead. Rylee Fairchild with the final 2 scores as Cole Camp won 25 -14.
Once again the Lady Orioles led early in the 2nd set, but not for long. Russell with several aces in her string of 10 for a 14-6 lead. Addison Brockman put this one in the books with the final 7 serves for a 25-11 victory.
Concordia Varsity record last year was 22-3, but they had five starters graduate. This year's team is 2-0, with some good young talent. Cole Camp came in at 4-0 and playing exciting volleyball! The starting six were seniors Marilyn Hesse, Mandy Goosen, and Olivia Pilant. Junior Andrea Dieckman and sophomores Leah Allison and Madilynn Ogle. Senior Kate Harrison is the libero.
Allison with an ace to open the 1st set and the Lady Bluebirds never trailed. A Dakota Dieckman score at 7-4 put Andrea to serve. As volleyball fans know, the server is also expected to protect the back line defensively. Andrea with a couple nice digs as the lead grew to 14-4. Ava Mueller, a powerful hitter for Concordia, may have been a bit surprised when Allison got under the ball just before floor contact! Nice closeout as Ogle a perfect set for Goosen to kill for a 25-14 win.
A 7-1 run early 2nd set by Cole Camp had Concordia on their heels. Several Lady Bluebirds recorded aces contributing to an 18-11 margin. Powerful hits by Hesse and Dakota as Cole Camp took the middle set 25-17.
No rain was falling, but Concordia likely felt the floodgates had opened in the 3rd set. Ogle with 9 serves for an 11-1 tally. After a kill by Mueller, Cole Camp scored the next 8 with Andrea dealing out the serves. Several reserves into the game late as Cole Camp walked away with a 25-5 final for another sweep!

Only 5 JV players to cheer as a pep club at the recent Russellville game. Come on Blue Crew, get out and support these students as they enter Conference play!
Due to limited players in the Russellville camp, a single JV set was played. Cole Camp jumped out to a 9-2 lead and kept scoring in bunches while the Lady Indians had to settle for two or less in a row. Cole Camp won 25-11.
Both Varsity teams were 3-0 at the start of play and Russellville starts five seniors. Those Lady Indians worked up a 12-8 lead by mid 1st set. After regaining possession, Mandy Goosen served 5 for a 13-12 Bluebird lead. Andrea Dieckman with two stuffs and a kill gave Cole Camp a 5 point lead which they held for a 25-19 victory.
A 6-6 tie in the 2nd set quickly went south as Russellville went on a 15-2 assault. Cole Camp hit an unusually high number of returns into the net, sometimes that happens. Could the Lady Birds regroup? Dieckman with a handful of scores and Madilynn Ogle served 5 in a row. From being down 13 to within 4, Cole Camp made it close but fell 19-25 in the 2nd.
Very competitive 3rd set as a 4 pt run by Cole Camp was the longest for either team. Dieckman was giving the Russellville hitters fits with blocks and or scores. Marilyn Hesse with the block, Ogle an ace, Kate Harrison a couple digs. All contributed to a nice 25-22 win for Cole Camp.
Ogle with 5 serves early 4th set as the Lady Bluebirds flew out to a 10-1 advantage. That lead grew to 24-10 before the Lady Indians rebounded with six in a row late. Final score of Cole Camp 25, Russellville 16.

Cole Camp fell behind 1-4 starting the C team game. However the Bluebirds regained the lead as Lauren Hesse served 5 for a 9-6 lead. Later Adilynn Craig served 7 to help build a 21-10 margin, leading to an eventual 25 - 13 win.
Craig serving to start the 2nd set and she delivered 8 in a row. Left-handed hitter Kaylan Poe had a couple very well placed shots for scores. Teams traded points mid game, then Anna Peterson chipped in a pair of aces. Cole Camp took the 2nd set 25-11.
Maddie Flores with 6 serves starting the JV contest. Cole Camp led 14-5 and kept it going up to a 25-8 win.
Kristen Carl with a kill opening the 2nd JV set giving serving duties to Taylor Loganbill. Loganbill had 3 aces in her string of 10 serves. Holden was whistled fairly often for touching the net, but rules are rules. Just as the set started, Carl with a kill to end the set with Cole Camp ahead 25-7.
This was Cole Camp's 3rd varsity game while the 1st for Holden. The Lady Eagles have been tough in the past.
Andrea Dieckman began serving with a 5-2 lead and when she finished it was 12-2. Mandy Goosen with 3 kills in that sequence. Marilyn Hesse added 7 serves as the lead reached 20-3. Cole Camp took the 1st set 25-9.
Madilynn Ogle with 7 serves early in the 2nd set. Showing her athletic ability, Hesse with a one-arm dig, followed shortly with a kill. Leah Allison closed out the scoring with 6 serves for a 25-6 victory.
Not giving up, the Lady Eagles overcame several kills by Goosen to lead 11-9 in the 3rd varsity set. Still anybody's game with an 18-18 tie, but the Lady Bluebirds crew finished it with a 7-1 effort and a 25-19 victory for the sweep!

Senior, Payten Shoemaker was recommended for membership in the National Technical Honor Society by the SFCC Career and Technology Center (CTC). Payten has attended CTC for the past two years, studying Health Occupations. Congratulations Payten!
Kaylan Poe served 5 helping Cole Camp get a good start in the C game. But the Lady Saints nearly tied it midway trailing by 1. From there it was mostly Blue. Adilynn Craig put down 2 aces during 6 serves as Cole Camp pulled away 25-11.
Aspen Meyer had 4 serves in a row twice in the 2nd set. Former Cole Camp resident Hannah Truwe with a nice cross court hit mid game for the Saints. Cole Camp claimed the last C team set 25-12.
In the JV contest, Maddie Flores started the set with 8 serves, including 2 aces. Nearly half of the Saints points were due to Cole Camp serving into the net or stepping to far under the net. Cole Camp closed out the set with a 10-1 run with Riley Raetz serving 6 of those. Cole Camp 25-7.
The Lady Saints led 4-1 in the 2nd JV set, however after regaining possession, Addison Brockman served 6. Riley Fairchild with a couple stuffs at the net and Cole Camp was rolling. Kristen Carl with a pair of aces mid game and Taylor Loganbill a couple well placed scores later as Cole Camp won 25-14 for the JV sweep.
The Varsity Lady Saints, traditionally has a strong program. So a good early season test for the Lady Bluebirds.
Cole Camp jumped out to a 5-0 lead and didn't look back. As Olivia Pilant was serving nearing midway leading 12-4, the Saints stiffened a bit after their timeout. The margin stayed around 7 until Madilynn Ogle served the last 6 for a Cole Camp 25-11 win.
Very close 2nd varsity set. St Paul's led 12-9, then a block and 4 serves by Andrea Dieckman gave Cole Camp a 17-13 lead. Back came the Saints to nudge ahead and take the set 25-22.
Strong 10-2 start for the Lady Bluebirds in the 3rd set. The Dieckman girls, Andrea a junior and Dakota a sophomore- cousins but not sisters - were both scoring at the net. Leah Allison and Marilyn Hesse each with 4 serves in a row. Mandy Goosen 2 scores and a block late as Cole Camp won 25-13.
Ditto in the 4th set. Cole Camp led 8-2 early and 15-9 midway. The Saints have some hitters, but Ogle turned around several smashes on defense. Final score of 25 - 15 for the Cole Camp victory!
