Cole Camp Vollebyall: This recap may have a familiar tone. The JV Lady Bluebirds were victorious September 26th hosting the Lady Bulldogs. Unfortunately the Varsity Ladybirds came up short.
The JV contest went well for Cole Camp. Taylor Loganbill served 7 early as part of an 8-1 lead. Riley Raetz served 4 midgame for a 19-6 lead. Cole Camp took the first set 25-13.
Kristin Carl served 7 opening the 2nd set. One was an ace, another looked like a sinker pitch. Yep the ball dropped just before reaching the defender. Kodi Dieckman a nice block and Kaitlyn Whitworth a couple scores along the way. Last seven points for Cole Camp with Maddie Florez serving for a 25-7 win!
Stover Varsity carried a 10-3-1 record starting the game. They are led in kills and digs by senior Ashlyn Pinzke. Plus they have another strong hitter in Jr Maycee Burton. Therefore always a hitter on the front row.
Decent start for the Lady Bluebirds as the score was 7-9 Stover. However as Pinzke warmed up, Cole Camp struggled to find a way to offset the angle and accuracy of her shots. Stover took the first set 25-10.
Mandy Goosen with several kills in the 2nd set. However Cole Camp never scored more than two in a row. Second set to Stover 25-11.
Madilynn Ogle and Andrea Dieckman teamed up for a couple set and kill combos in the 3rd set. Leah Allison with defensive and offensive plays helping build an 11-8 lead midway. Nice finish to the set as Cole Camp used a 10-2 run to claim the third set 25 - 16.
Could they carry that momentum forward? Well they tried! Olivia Pilant with sets for Hesse to finish. However Burton and Pinzke were more than the Lady Bluebirds could offset. Except for perhaps the Dig of the Year so far turned in by Kate Harrison. Pinzke had smoked the ball towards an opening in the Cole Camp defense. But Harrison got there and met the ball square with both arms leading to a point! Great job! Cole Camp made the 4th set close but Stover eventually won it 25-20.
Kills-Dieckman 13, Goosen 11, Hesse 9, Ogle 6, Allison 5
Digs-Allison 16, Hesse 15, Ogle 13, Harrison 12, Goosen 11, Pilant 7
Assists-Pilant 21, Ogle 17
Blocks-Goosen 11, Dieckman 8

Lady Bluebirds Volleyball: Lincoln came to Cole Camp September 24th marking about mid season for the 2024 volleyball schedule. Time to leave early season jitters behind.
The Cardinals flew out to an 8-2 lead in the JV game. And they still led 17-11 midway. A nice 10-2 run for Cole Camp erased that plus build a two-point margin. However Cole Camp couldn't hold it as the first set went to Lincoln 27-25.
A 10-1 string broke open a tight 2nd JV set for Cole Camp. Kaitlyn Whitworth with several scores and a block. Alivia Haase with a kill late as Cole Camp won 25-17.
Taylor Loganbill dealt out 9 serves early 3rd set. Maddie Florez nearly handcuffed the Cardinal receiver with a serve midway. Some great rallies took place and fans showed their appreciation. Final score of Cole Camp 25-12 to win the JV match.
Cole Camp entered the varsity game with a 3-5 record, Lincoln was 2-6.
No doubt practice is important, but good instincts can't be overlooked. Early in the opening set, Mandy Goosen and Marilyn Hesse appeared to be off balance and rushed, yet made good contact to keep a rally going. A bit later Leah Allison with a nice dig for a Goosen kill. Finishing the set Madilynn Ogle a nice scoop off the floor and Cole Camp won 25-11.
Strong 2nd set effort by Andrea Dieckman. In addition to serving 7 in a row, she recorded several scores to go along with multiple blocks. Late in the set, Ashlyn Russell served 6 as Cole Camp won 25-13.
Cole Camp led the third set 14-2. Doing a lot of interior work for the Bluebirds is Olivia Pilant and Ogle. They scampered to and fro to keep the ball in play and in position for a teammate to put a good swing on. Final set to Cole Camp 25-8.
Kills-Hesse 12, Goosen 5, Dieckman 5, Allison 5
Digs-Ogle 11, Pilant 10, Goosen 9, Allison 7, Hesse 5
Assists-Pilant 18, Ogle 9
Blocks-Dieckman 10, Goosen 4
Looks like the Lady Bluebirds are beginning to gel, let's load the wagon for a strong second half of the season! Thank you to Aurthur Keuper for this article.
