Cole Camp Bluebird Girls and Boys Basketball: The Lady Bluebirds were on the court at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12th facing the Lady Tigers. Versailles had a size advantage, mainly 6' 2" Kylee Richey. Well known for her volleyball accomplishments, she decided to play basketball this year after sitting out last year. Richey scored 8 of their 16 in the first qtr. Kaitlyn Whitworth a basket early and Leah Allison a 3 late accounted for Cole Camps' 5 in the first period. Whitworth opened the 2nd with another basket. Freshman Allison showed some courage competing with Richey for rebounds. Payten Shoemaker with a two mid qtr followed by 4 from Marilyn Hesse. Later a long range 3 from Shoemaker brought Cole Camp within 8. However Versailles still led 28-16 at halftime. MacKenzie Moellman the only basket in the 3rd qtr for Cole Camp. Versailles could just throw the ball up towards Richey and most of the time she caught it. But not always! On two distinct plays, Hesse got in front of Richey and jumped up high enough to steal the incoming ball. Good work! Versailles still ahead 39-18 after 3. Last qtr mostly same as previous three. Maddie Flores dropped in a free throw late for the last score of the game. Versailles 48, Cole Camp 23. Scoring: Whitworth 6, Shoemaker 5, Moellman 4, Hesse 4, Allison 3, Florez 1. Richey with 13 leading 9 Versailles players in scoring. Allison 6 rebounds, Thayer 5. Hesse 4 steals. Varsity Boys next on court and a good effort from Kolton Phillips early. He scored 4 and denied a Versailles player a possible dunk on a breakaway. Versailles whistled for several fouls and Cole Camp made 6 of 8 freethrows. Still Versailles netted four 3's to lead 18-10 after 1. Likely one of their better efforts so far for the varsity boys in the 2nd qtr. Kolby Bohon connected from downtown, Colton Dieckman scored 6 with 8-10 ft jump shots, then added a pair of free throws. Dasch Kaiser, Blake Abey and Connor Petersen all pitched in 2. Halftime score was Versailles 32, Cole Camp 28. Only down by 4 at half, but how quickly the scenery changed in the 3rd. With a mix of 2's and 3's, the Tigers scored the first 22 of the qtr. Their defense caused several turnovers and so they led 58-32 after 3. Bohon added 4 in the last qtr. Brett Burdick made two free throws and Spencer Godwin a fieldgoal. Final score of Versailles 68, Cole Camp 42. Scoring: Bohon 11, Dieckman 10, Phillips 5, Petersen 4, Clark 3, Abey 3, Godwin 2, Kaiser 2, Burdick 2. Cole Camp made 15 of 20 freethrows. Reese Murdock had 24 for the Tigers. Thank you to Aurthur Keuper for this article!!!

Holy Cow!! Finals start tomorrow! Here is a link to the finals schedule for grades 7-12. https://5il.co/32kjy Students MUST have a charged Chromebook available everyday. This is a general expectation but especially important during finals week as some finals will not be able to be made up. If a student has lost a charger, they may purchase one at the school store for $10.

Cole Camp Girls & Boys Basketball: Great weekend for Missouri basketball and Kansas City football! Suppose it would look odd to see the Bluebirds wearing RED, but if that would increase the win total..... Cole Camp hosted Sherwood Dec 9th for Varsity and JV basketball action. In the girls game, the Lady Bluebirds trailed early but tied the score with two baskets by Kaitlyn Whitworth. Plus a 3 from the top of the key by Madilynn Ogle gave Cole Camp a 7-5 lead after 1. Payten Shoemaker a long 3 early 2nd qtr for a 10-5 lead. Then the rim seemed to shrink. Cole Camp had multiple close range shots that just wouldn't fall. Score at halftime was Cole Camp 12, Sherwood 13. Best 3 minutes of the young season for MacKenzie Moellman opening the 3rd. Twice she grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up and in. Plus a pair of free throws. Shoemaker also 2 free throws and Cole Camp led 20 -13. After freshman Heidi Doores scored 4 for Sherwood, Emma Thayer lined up a 3. Cole Camp led 25-19 after 3. Following a Katherine Timoshchuk basket at 6:13 in the 4th, Cole Camp led 29-21. Then a painful 4 minutes for the Lady Bluebird faithful. Sherwood reeled off 10 in a row to lead 31-29. Timoshchuk tied the game at 31 and that's where regulation time ended. Four minutes of overtime saw Whitworth with a basket at 3:17. However Sherwood added 4 so they won 35-33. Scoring: Whitworth 8, Timoshchuk 8, Moellman 6, Shoemaker 5, Thayer 3, Ogle 3. Moellman 13 rebounds, Hesse 7. Whitworth 5 takeaways. Doores 13 points for Sherwood. In the boys match up, Colton Dieckman with 4 and a Kolby Bohon 3 made for a 7-7 game mid 1st qtr. The Marksmen then added another 9 to lead 16-7 after 8 minutes. Sherwood outscored Cole Camp 19-4 in the 2nd qtr. No three-point shots from afar, but several layups were allowed. Bohon and Dieckman 2 each leaving the halftime tally 35 - 11. Connor Petersen back in action during this game and he added a basket in the 3rd. Blake Abey also made a fieldgoal, but Sherwood lead 47-15 after 3. With the lead over 30 most of the last qtr, the clock soon brought this game to a close. Sherwood 55, Cole Camp 22. Scoring: Bohon 9, Dieckman 6, Abey 4, Petersen 2, Burdick 1. Phillips and Bohon 5 rebounds each. Luke Mainard with 12 leading Sherwood. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for this article!!
