Cole Camp High School sophomores and seniors participated in Reality Check (a budgeting exercise) provided by Central Bank on Thursday, October 24. Reality Check is a great learning experience for the students to determine how much money is needed to pay for monthly expenses. Community members volunteered their time to man one of the 20 booths that students visited (we appreciate your support and assistance so much). Many thanks to Central Bank and all the helpful volunteers!

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: The Class 2 District 7 volleyball playoffs continued October 24th in Stover. Teams in District 7 were #1 Stover, Cole Camp, Eugene, Sacred Heart, Russellville and Calvary Lutheran from Jefferson City. Cole Camp faced Calvary Lutheran (10-10-1) at about 7:15 Thursday evening. Calvary has about 100 students in grades 9 through 12. And a Cole Camp connection as Robert and Cheri Farrington's daughter Kelly and her husband have a daughter Sydney Volmert on the team. Mandy Goosen with several scores early for Cole Camp, but the Lady Lions roared out to a 10-5 lead. Good timeout by Coach Massingill, as her Ladybirds responded to tie it at 10. Next the Lutherans built another 5 point lead at 17-12. Marilyn Hesse followed with a couple hits while Olivia Pilant served 5 in a row. Tied at 18, then again at 20, anybody's game. Cole Camp gained possession at 21-20 and Hesse, showing no ill effects from her ankle issue last game, served the last 4. Cole Camp won 25-20. Andrea Dieckman with a block opening the 2nd set. Calvary freshman Sydney Foutes and sophmore Alayna Sprengel did a nice job hitting the ball in open spots. Still the Lady Bluebirds held a 20-16 lead when Calvary called timeout. Turned into an extended timeout as a water bottle somehow jumped off the upper walking area and down onto the floor it's splattered! Took 4 people with large towels and a mop to corral the spill! Unfazed Cole Camp continued to a 25-18 victory in the middle set. Your Lady Bluebirds led the 3rd set 7-5 when a Leah Allison score put Madilynn Ogle up to serve. Okay fans, what's your guess on her string of serves? Choices are 8, 12, or 16. 16 is correct, including several Aces! Cole Camp rolled to a 25-6 win in the final set. Kills-Goosen 11, Dieckman 8, Hesse 8, Allison 4 Digs-Pilant 12, Hesse 10, Ogle 8, Allison 8, Harrison 6, Dieckman 5 Assists-Pilant 17, Ogle 13 Blocks-Dieckman 7, Goosen 3 Aces-Ogle 9 Stover defeated a pesky Russellville team in 3 sets earlier in the evening. So come on out Cole Camp to Stover Tuesday the 29th at 7 p.m. to watch these two teams battle it out for the Championship! Thank you to Arthur Keuper for this article. Hope everyone can come out to support the girls on TUESDAY, OCT 29th at 7:00 PM at the Stover Dome!!!! GO BLUE!!!

Cole Camp Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp Varsity Volleyball was at Versailles High School about all day October 19th. Unlike the most recent outing at Northwest where after victories the team might have been feeling tipsy, this was more of a let's go home and take a nap ending. Pool play games where 2 sets and started at 4 each on the scoreboard. Cole Camp faced Warsaw at 9:50 a.m. and a good first set! Although Warsaw lead 19-16, Andrea Dieckman dealt out 6 serves to help Cole Camp move ahead. Marilyn Hesse a kill and a Mandy Goosen block gave Cole Camp a 25-22 win. Cole Camp led the 2nd set 12 - 9 in part due to Leah Allison with a nice one arm stretch to keep the ball in the air. However Adison Sherrill followed with 9 serves for the Wildcats to lead 19-12. Cole Camp narrowed the margin back to 3, but no closer. Warsaw took the second set 25-21. Next action came about with Skyline (15-12-4) as the opponent. Again starting with 4 each, but not for long. The Lady Tigers just simply ran away from the Lady Bluebirds in the first set with a 25-10 score. Unfortunately injuries can be part of being active and Marilyn Hesse certainly is that. Early in the 2nd set she went down under the net. After a few moments, she was helped to the Cole Camp bench with an apparent ankle injury. Skyline followed with a 10-point run to take the last set 25-12. Last pool play game for Cole Camp was facing the host school Lady Tigers. Even with Marilyn injured, her Mother Leslie still took a turn serving as line judge. That's supporting the team! Versailles kind of built up some steam early and led 18-12 midway. Regardless Cole Camp came back to tie at 21 on an Allison ace! Close but not quite, Versailles claimed the first set 25-22. Versailles seemed to pick apart the Cole Camp defense in the next set. They worked up a 19-11 lead, but the Lady Bluebirds didn't quit. Olivia Pilant strung 5 serves together, and Goosen with a big time dig and Madilynn Ogle a kill. Eventually though Versailles won last set 25-20. Pool Play stats not including the Skyline game. Kills-Dieckman 11, Goosen 10, Hesse 6, Ogle 5 Digs-Goosen 10, Allison 10, Ogle 7, Pilant 6 Assists-Pilant 19, Ogle 8 Blocks-Dieckman 9, Goosen 4, Allison 4 Finally at about 4 p.m. Saturday, Cole Camp and Tipton were facing off on the Consolation side of bracket play. Cole Camp led 7-4 early but a mid-game surge by the Cardinals gave them the edge to win the first set 25-13. Once again the Lady Bluebirds held an early margin in the 2nd set, only to endure another strong midway response by their opponent. Tipton led 17-11 in route to a 25-22 final score. Kills-Dieckman 5, Goosen 5 Digs-Allison 12, Pilant 7, Ogle 6 Assists-Pilant 8, Ogle 5 Blocks-Dieckman 4 After the game, Marilyn Hesse was putting some weight on her foot while cautiously walking. When asked about it, she said with a big smile, "Oh it will be fine" Great attitude! Thank you to Arthur Keuper for this article.
